Culloden credit
Alisoncampsie’sarticleonthe struggles of the Jacobites after the defeat at Culloden was well timed, on the anniversary of the battle. One outstanding example of Jacobite loyalty is that of Cluny Macpherson, 18th Chief of Clan Macpherson, who proved himself as a staunch supporter of Prince Charles Edward Stuart during the campaign of 1745-6.
He sheltered the Prince when he was on the run after Culloden in his hideout on Ben Alder and remained in Scotland for another nine years safeguarding Jacobite interests, including looking after the Loch Arkaig treasure. Despite there being a reward of one thousand guineas on his head he was never betrayed and ultimately escaped to France, where he died in poverty.
His courage and loyalty to his cause is an example to be followed by all.
