Drive towards rail
David Spaven rightly bemoans the lack of effort by the Scottish Government to increase
line capacity on the Highland Main Line (Friends of the Scotsman, 17 April).
It is not only the rail freight industry that does not receive proper importance, but also the potential passenger.
While electrification and new trains certainly bring much need benefits, large swaths of new suburbia is still unable to access rail travel.
The whole of Bonnybridge/ Denny, Lesmahagow, Law, and Leven/methil urgently needs to be connected to the wonderful new railway being delivered to Scottish travellers, with ample car parking space.
Government ministers must adopt a “can do” attitude to convert car drivers to rail commuters.
