MUSTANG IS TOP-SELLING SPORTS CAR

Ford’s legendary Mustang has retained its title as the world’s best-selling sports coupe.

A total of 113,066 examples of the iconic muscle car were sold around the world in 2018, meaning that the Mustang has been the global bestseller for the last four years.

Sales in Britain rose five per cent last year, with 2,323 cars sold but in the car’s US homeland ford shift er 75,842 examples.

Across europe have jumped 27 per cent in the first quarter of this year, which marks the 55th anniversar­y of the original car’s launch.

Since it was launched in 2015, more than half a million sixth-generation Mustangs have been sold worldwide.

“We broke the mould when Ford launched the Mustang 55 years ago,” said Jim Farley, Ford president, global markets. “Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang; it’s an icon. The roar of its V8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.”
