Joyce Gunn Cairns MBE & Alasdair Gray

Starting next week, Alasdair Gray and Joyce Gunn Cairns are showing together at the Union Gallery. They are two distinguished artists and an intriguing pairing, for their work makes a nice counterpoint. Even when they paint, both depend on drawing, but Gray’s drawing is linear, precise and determined, while Cairns finds a kind of provisional coherence in what starts as an untidy net of lines.
