@Wij_scotland tweeted: We are devastated and deeply concerned to hear about the murder of our fellow journalist #Lyramckee, just 29 years old. Our thoughts are with her partner, family and friends.
@Nicolasturgeon said: If you read nothing else today, read a letter Lyra Mckee wrote to her 14 year old self. It is heartbreaking but life affirming… and leaves me wishing I’d had the chance to meet this brave young woman. RIP Lyra.”
Ireland’s Taioseach @ Leovaradkar added “I would like to express my sincere condolences to Lyra’s family, her partner Sara and her friends. Our solidarity also goes out to the people of Derry and to the entire journalism community.”
@Naomiohreally reported: “A journalist has been killed covering riots in Derry. Her name was Lyra Mckee. She was 29. She recently signed a two-book deal with Faber, who called her a ‘rising star of investigative journalism’”
@Bbcjamescook added: “It’s Good Friday, 21 years after the peace deal was signed, and Northern Ireland is waking to dark news from the past. Rioting, petrol bombs, alleged bomb plots and, worst of all, a 29-yearold journalist, Lyra Mckee, shot dead in the street.”
@lillydancyger said: “Lyra Mckee was dedicated to covering the lasting trauma & violence of the Troubles. Devastating to hear she was killed tonight by that same violence.”

His Holiness the @Pontifex tweeted: “Look at the open arms of Christ crucified, and let Him save you. Contemplate His blood shed out of love and let yourself be purified by it. In this way you can be reborn.”
America’s First Lady Melania Trump said: “Many blessings to all around the world celebrating #Goodfriday”
@sav_ann enjoyed the UK sunshine: “A wonderful way to spend a sunny and bright Good Friday day. In the midst of Trafalgar Square watching an open air performance – The Passion of Jesus by the Wintershall Players.”
