Benefits of buses

- ALESSANDRA KEIGHLEY New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand

Chimneys all along Leith Walk in Edinburgh emit no smoke. Clearly, decisions in the past were made for the common good.

That same Leith Walk now has a tramway planned for it, though an electric bus alternative exists.

It is my understanding that electric buses carry more people, provide more stops in more convenient places, offer superior seating and wheelchair access, require no roadwork disruption to business or travellers, cost less than the tram and they are made in Scotland.

This visitor is yet to understand how the tradition of canny choices for Scottish people is served by the current decision to proceed with the tram.
