Signs of sepsis

- DAVID SYME Pinkhill Park, Edinburgh (DR) DAVID HANNAY Carsluith, Wigtownshire

Would it be fair to say that our national sport has morphed from caber-tossing to littertossing? A 3km walk along the A70 south of the capital would suggest that this is true. Drinks cans, bottles and mugs every few metres.

Vehicles should have a bag or bin for rubbish to save our road verges from becoming strips of litter. There are too many “tossers” driving on our roads! Regarding The Scotsman’s report on sepsis on 19 April, 50 years ago a review of cases of septic shock in a London Hospital concluded that the most consistent sign was low blood pressure.

It is surprising that this is not included in the early signs which are the subject of the Scottish Government initiative to raise awareness of this potentially fatal condition.
