Woman stranded in Thailand to fly home
A Scottish woman stranded in Thailand after being hospitalised by a mystery illness is set to fly home after a massive fundraising campaign by her father.
Rebekah Fulton, 25, has been battling a serious infection in a hospital in Phuket, with her father, James Geddes, by her bedside.
The 48-year-old pleaded for support to raise enough money to fly Rebekah home as he feared she may have meningitis or “something similar” - and donors raised more than the £25,000 target. Rebekah has now been given a fitness to fly certificate.
The illness has now been assessed to be suspected encephalitis, a form of brain inflammation and Rebekah, from Barrhead, near Glasgow, will be rushed to hospital on return to the UK.
Mr Geddes said: “The medical team have taken over Rebekah’s care and her fitness to fly certificate was signed off by the doctor in Phuket yesterday afternoon.
“All being well today, we are looking at a flight later tonight or early tomorrow with Rebekah being transferred by ambulance to hospital on our return.
“Once again I’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
