Clydesdale fall short in promotion bid
Clydesdale Western failed in their bid to gain promotion at the women’s Eurohockey Challenge 1 tournament when they lost 3-1 to French side Lille.
This was a disappointing finale for Derek Forsyth’s charges as they had earlier topped their pool with two victories and a draw.
The foundation for Lille’s victory came with two first half goals by Lyoung Han Hye which gave the Scots a mountain to climb.
Although an open-play strike by Heather Lang provided Clydesdale with a glimmer of hope, that lasted barely three minutes before Diane D’haussy sealed the tie with a third goal.
At the Trophy event in Rochester, Edinburgh University fared little better, finishing with the wooden spoon after going down 3-2 to Ukrainian side Sumchanka. E
llie Halliday and Zara Malseed scored for the students, but it was not enough to save face for the Scots.
