THE FANS’ REACTION…

-

The news that veteran Hibernian defenders David Gray and Darren Mcgregor had signed four-year deals prompted a generally positive online reaction from supporters of the Leith club…

Sir David Gray should be getting a gold postbox outside his hoose.

– Gerald Brett Gallacher

Best news ever. Both utter legends who bleed green.

Just add Stephane Omeonga to the signing news and I’ll be a happy man.

– Happy Hibby

This is very good news. Two guys that give it all for the Hibs. Delighted. Well done everyone at the club.

Great to hear news of Darren Mcgregor and David Gray signing new long-term deals at Easter Road. Hard to remember a team with such a solid connection to the fans, the local community and great role models too.

– Iain Macphail

Great business by Hibs. The lad Gray had a great game against Celtic on Sunday and a good battle with Scott Broon. Also looked like there was a bit of respect at the end with the two of them, which is always good to see.

Leeann Dempster is building a boot-room culture. I’m sure Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon will follow. We are so lucky to have her strategically running the club. GGTTH.

I love both players, but if you take sentiment out of it this seems like a risky strategy for a club like us who can little afford to have a squad which, two years down the line, could end up with too many players on long-term deals unable to contribute fully to the team but whose wages mean we cant afford to bring in replacements.

So the next management team, all going according to plan.

Absolutely delighted that both will see out their playing careers here and then remain after that. Two players who typify the Hibs way. Determined, humble and take pride in their performance.

– We Are Hibs

They finally did it. They finally gave some players those semi-mythical “player-coach” deals we’ve heard so much about.

– Diclonius

I’m as delighted to have these two players signing on to continue playing for us as I would be about any new player joining us. They’ve been about as good in their respective positions as we’ve had in the past 25 years and bring so much more than just a playing contribution. Brilliant news.

– Smartie

I’m really happy with this news. They couldn’t wish for a better man than Paul Heckingbottom to be their current manager when working their way through their coaching education. Hecky is clearly a very astute operator.

Was a bit surprised to read they were getting four-year contracts, but I assume we are smart enough not to pay them first-team player wages for those four years. It’ll seriously hamper us two or three years down the line if not.
