Trump travesty
The forthcoming state visit of Donald Trump is interesting in many ways. Any self-respecting country who disagreed with the policies and attitudes of a major foreign
leader would just maintain polite relations with that country while expressing disapproval in a firm but diplomatic manner.
What does the UK do? We, cap in hand, invite him here, get the armed forces to pull
out all the stops – including fly-pasts and sail-bys – have a lavish slap-up nosh plus talks with a fawning PM at Downing Street and chuck in the Queen for good measure.
Anyone might think we were desperate to curry favour with
him. That’s because we, as a once-proud nation, are.
He may not be the brightest US president of all time but he’s savvy enough to know he has us over a barrel, eating out of his hand, like a puppet on a string or any other image for complete supremacy. It’s little wonder he was so keen for us to leave the EU.
Is this the”taking back control” Brexiteers envisaged?
