Goodwillie among League 2 Player of the Year nominees
David Goodwillie is among the nominees for PFA Scotland League 2 Player of the Year.
The Clyde striker, pictured, will be considered a controversial choice for the award following a civil ruling in 2017 that he raped a woman.
Goodwillie, 30, who began his career with Dundee United before earning a big-money move to Crystal Palace, has been playing in Scotland’s bottom division since March 2017.
He is joined on the four-man League 2 short-list by his Clyde team-mate John Rankin, Annan’s Chris Johnston and the league’s top scorer, Edinburgh City striker Blair Henderson.
In the Championship, prolific Queen of the South forward Stephen Dobbie is nominated for the third time in a row, along with three other strikers, Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland – last season’s League 1 Player of the Year – Dundee United’s Pavol Sanfranko and Ross County’s Billy Mckay.
In League 1, Raith Rovers centre forward Kevin Nisbet is nominated along with title-winning Arbroath striker Bobby Linn, Forfar’s Dale Hilson and Dumbarton’s Dom Thomas, who has impressed for the Sons during his loan spell from Kilmarnock.
The nominations for the PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year have yet to be announced. The overall winners will be announced on Sunday 5 May at PFA Scotland’s annual awards dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.
