USP Crofting updated

The image of a traditional Scottish crofting life is a modest one of subsistence farming in a traditional cottage, but Ach An Darach in the crofting township of Teavarran, near Inverness, is a far cry from that.

The house sits in decrofted

grounds of three quarters of an acre and has croft land of 11 acres, used for grazing sheep and silage, plus amenity woodland.

Built in 2014, Ach An Darach has views to Strathglass, Strath Cannich and Ben Wyvis. It has four bedrooms and is highly energy efficient with incomegenerating solar panels, high levels of insulation, wood-burning stoves and an air-source heat pump.

Phiddy Robertson, of Galbraith, says: “Built with comfort and energy efficiency in mind, Ach An Darach is a home for those who long for a better quality of life as it offers an ideal smallholding opportunity.

“The property has panoramic views over wooded farmland to the mountains of the west, and yet is just a half-hour drive from Inverness and 45 minutes from its airport. “It offers the opportunity to graze

livestock or run a smallholding with professionally designed gardens, including a productive kitchen garden with Hartley Botanic greenhouse. The modern generalpurpose shed currently houses machinery and has the potential for conversion to stabling or livestock accommodation.”
