Sell me a Tory

I couldn’t agree more with Bill Jamieson (“A deadly serious clown march”, Perspective, 25 April). The rise of celebrities and comedians to positions of political power is a worrying trend which will inevitably end in tears.

I couldn’t help thinking that this is the way the S cottish Conser vative Par t y is going w i t h t h e i r R u t h D av i d s o n cult. With every election flyer trumpeting Ruth Davidson’s Conser vative Par t y, appeara n c e s o n r e a l i t y T V p r o - grammes, an autobiography and endless photo opportunities, maybe her party should save money by not publishing a manifesto, but just distribute copies of the TV Times.
