Macfarlane cheers 70th anniversary milestone

M a c f a r l a n e G r o u p , t h e G l a s g o w - b a s e d p a c k a g - ing business, celebrates its 70th anniversary today.

The listed firm was established by Norman Macfarlane following his return f r o m N a t i o n a l S e r v i c e , starting life as a commerc i a l s t a t i o n e r y b u s i n e s s under the name N.S. Macfarlane & Co.

I t h a s g r o w n f r o m a s i n g l e - r o o me d o f f i c e i n Glasgow’s Bath Street to employ almost 900 people across 30 sites.

L o r d M a c f a r l a n e w a s k n i g h t e d i n 1 9 8 3 a n d retired as chairman of the group in 1998.

Boss Peter Atkinson said: “At this imp or tant mile - s t o n e we wo u l d l i k e t o thank our customers and suppliers for the trust they place in us.”
