Aston Martin drops the top for 211mph convertible
Aston Martin has lifted the lid on its latest model – the DBS Superleggera Volante.
The newest car to come out of Gaydon, and the second to bear the Volante name since Aston Martin launched its Second Century Plan, the DBS Superleggera Volante is a drop-top version of its flagship super GT.
Aston Martin says that its aim with the Volante is to bring another level of sensory overload to the DBS range.
Sticking with traditional convertible style, the Volante features a folding fabric roof, but combines it with modern construction techniques to ensure it offers the sort of refinement you’d expect for more than £200,000.
The roof is made up of eight layers of insulation and “acoustic enhancing” materials and is availabe in eight colours including Bordeaux Red, Atlantic Blue and Titan Grey. The inside of the roof can also be customised with a choice of six Rokona headliners. Under the reshaped skin, the Volante retains the DBS Superlegerra’s running gear.
That means a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V12 producing an eyeopening 715bhp and 664lb/ft of torque.
All of that is directed to the rear wheels by a reinforced eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
Even in drop-top form, the DBS Superleggera Volante will blast to 62mph in 3.6 seconds on its way to a coiffure-worrying top speed of 211mph, making it Aston Martin’s fastest-ever cabriolet. Priced from £247,500, order books are open now.
