Call to raise alcohol minimum unit price

-

Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-hamilton MSP has said the minimum unit pricing of alcohol in Scotland should be raised to at least 60p.

The minimum unit price of 50p was introduced on 1 May 2018. With 100 people each day admitted to hospital due to alcohol misuse, a minimum unit price of at least 60p per unit has been backed by the UK Faculty of Public Health. Mr Cole-hamilton said: “The value of the 50p price was eroded by inflation in the years the policy was in the courts.”
