Seminary saved
The report that the old Mill at Scalan, on the Braes of Glenlivet, is to be restored is excellent, it being one of the most important religious buildings in that part of the Highlands.
One of the most distinguished seminary occupants was Abbé Paul Macpherson (1756-1846), who excelled as an international diplomat and teacher. He formed the Scots College in Rome into the fine institution that it is today.
He also played a leading part in an unsuccessful plan to rescue the Pope, then held as a hostage by Napoleon, and take him to safety in a Royal Navy ship. He is commemorated by a memorial stone at Scalan.
