- By BRIAN FERGUSON

Bodyguard star Richard Madden is to get an honorary degree from his former drama school in Glasgow this summer.

Therenfrewshirebornactor and Golden Globe winner will be back at the Royal Conservatoire in Scotland in July, where he graduated in 2007.

Madden’s first major screen role was in Game of Thrones, starring as Robb Stark in 21 episodes of the hit fantasy.

He also appeared in Disney’s Cinderella and the Netflix romantic comedy Ibiza before shooting to fame for his role as David Budd in Bodyguard, in which he played a detective assigned to protect the Home Secretary, played by Keeley Hawes.

Also due to be honoured at the RCS ceremony in July are lighting designer Paule Constable, who has won two Tony Tony Awards for her work on War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, and Stirlingborn soprano Margaret Marshall. Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, principal of the RCS, said: “Graduation is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate inspirational individuals who have made deep and lasting contributions to the world through the arts.

“Richard, Paule and Margaret have all demonstrated an exceptional ability to inspire and engage audiences through their artistry and we are delighted to be able to honour them while we celebrate our students’ achievements.”
