Adams the latest Scot to lose his job

- By DARREN JOHNSTONE

Adams’ sacking as Plymouth manager has left only seven Scots bosses in England – eight years after there were seven managing in the top flight alone.

Former Ross County manager Adams was axed on Sunday after the Pilgrims dropped into the League One relegation zone following a 5-1 loss at Accrington, which was their fifth straight defeat. He had been in charge of Plymouth since June 2015.

Adams’ exit has left Alex Neil (Preston), Paul Lambert (Ipswich), Jack Ross (Sunderland),stevenpressley (Carlisle), Colin Calderwood (Cambridge), Darren Ferguson (Peterborough) and Micky Mellon (Tranmere) as the only Scottish bosses left in England.

As recently as 2011, there were seven managing at the top level – Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United), Paul Lambert (Norwich), Alex Mcleish (Aston Villa), David Moyes (Everton), Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool), Steve Kean (Blackburn) and Scottishborn Owen Coyle (Bolton).
