Careful staff tend to Traquair House’s grand garden maze

The largest hedged maze in Scotland, it was planted originally in 1981 with 1,500 Leylandi Cyprus trees, but suffered from a harsh winter in 1983 which laid waste to two-thirds of the trees. It was decided to replant with hardier beech trees which has added colour and interest to the maze
