Rare QE2 images to go on show for first time

- By MARTYN MCLAUGHLIN

Unseen images of the QE2 are to go on display in Glasgow to mark the 50th anniversary of the liner entering service.

The photographs of the Clydebuilt ship will form the centrepiece of a maritime heritage event which is being held at Fairfield Heritage Centre in Govan this Saturday.

The images were rescued after an eagle eyed buyer spotted the QE2 in a collection of slides.

Rob Lightbody from the QE2 Story Forum, which is organising this weekend’s event, said: “The QE2 is probably the most photographed ship of all time, so to unearth new images ten years after her retirement is amazing.”

?? ?? Maritime enthusiasts said it was ‘amazing’ to discover a collection of never before seen images of the QE2, both under construction and at sea, some half a century after she entered service
