Off target
Donald Trump announced the United States will walk away from the UN arms control treaty while addressing the National Rifle Association of America.
He was met with cheering and uproar of approval. It was reminiscent of Nuremberg-style rallies, with rabid cheering where the leader barks defiance and outrage at international control treaties and vows to make the country great again.
But great at what, is the question? Unfettered sales of weapons worldwide, the continued right to carry lethal weapons of killing by US citizens and further acts of mass shooting carried out by subgroups in the US filed by racial hatred, religious hate and intolerance.
As the US isolates itself and rejects internationally agreed norms, with a president who in his personal demeanour and verbal outbursts is an outright embarrassment, we must protest against his state visit to this country.
It is an indictment of the UK Government at Westminster and the monarchy that they have invited this renegade head of state.
What a shocking boast to claim that we have a “special relationship”, and aim to widen it with a country, which is defying and deforming internationally agreed norms and treaties.
