Cashless society removes another major part of our identity from the individual nation states. This is what it is all about, under the cover of so called progress.

It’s also is an easy way for Big Brother to keep an eye on us all. Harder to do with cash spending.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the majority of people took their monthly salaries in cash out of the bank, leaving only enough to cover their bills. Another run like Northern Rock a few years ago?

It’s easier to spend money with a card, that suits the banks as they charge interest on your overdrawn account. Use cash is my advice.

sheeps The root cause is low interest rates, these rates have all but collapsed the banking system in Europe/eurozone. Ultra low interest rates mean banks can’t make enough money to subsidise services like ATMS.

Roastin It’s time the governments of the UK and Scotland got to grips with this problem. They should take action to ensure cash is still freely available everywhere. Many social clubs, such as golf clubs, do not use credit cards.

Braveheart Social clubs and golf clubs don’t need them. Even in the 1980s, my uncle simply wrote one cheque a month to settle his tab at the golf club. To pay for his 100th birthday party at the golf club in January, he used fingerprint recognition on his iphone to pay the bill by Faster Payment.

Andrew This is part of the preparation to get us to accept the cashless society which will be coming soon. Already in place in China, with cards being used for all purchases, all buying is monitored and the cardholder penalised if the State thinks they are spending money on the wrong things.

Joan Simpson The EU plans to do exactly what you are saying. The last time I read about their plans they wanted to set a limit to personal finance, around £59,000. The state, in Scotland, already holds massive amounts of data about citizens – video doctor appointments are already a fact, police calls are directed to AI call systems, CCTV watches us from everywhere, people can spy on each other with apps and report them, DVLA. We are losing personal freedom and privacy at an alarming rate and are sleep walking into complete control and obedience.

Kraken The Capital’s property market is at its hottest since the credit crunch, a report claims. More homes in the city are being put up for sale and more people are looking to buy say Warners Solicitors & Estate Agents.

It seems fairly obvious that no one, except the SNP, believes that the sky is going to fall in after Brexit. This must be very disappointing for the SNP.

Soracte Surely this is contrary to everything we are being told? How inconvenient.

When [Nicola Sturgeon] said that Brexit will decimate Scotland – maybe it was a threat, not a prediction.

Just wait till the replacement for council tax starts and they are billed for extra thousands of pounds.

Aberdeenshire It’s one legal firm producing a report on their annual operating stats, as a marketing tool to generate clients. It would have been more relevant if other firms or the ESPC reported similar findings. Until then it’s a bit tenuous to extrapolate it out to the whole of the market.
