Adam and Fletcher head for Stoke City exit
Scotland international Charlie Adam has confirmed that he will leave Stoke City at the end of the season – but insists he is ready to continue his career at “the highest level”.
The 33-year-old has found first-team opportunities increasingly scarce with the Potters of late, making just 32 appearances in the past two seasons and enduring the heartbreak of relegation to the Championship last term.
Nevertheless, Adam, pictured, has hailed seven “unbelievable” campaigns at the Britannia, having joined the club from Liverpool in a £5 million deal in 2012. After more than 150 outings for Stoke overall, he will formally depart when his current contract expires.
However, he is adamant he has no intention of allowing his playing days to wind down.
The former Rangers and Blackpool player tweeted: “Following talks with the manager [Nathan Jones] it’s with a heavy heart I can confirm I will be leaving Stoke City after seven unbelievable years at the club.
“I’m ready for a fresh challenge and to be back playing regularly again at the highest level.
“I have a number of opportunities and am now looking forward to the next chapter of my career.” Meanwhile, former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher will also depart Stoke this summer. The midfielder spent two years at the club after joining from West Bromwich Albion.
