‘ Time to axe Scotland Office’, says Tory MP
A Tory MP has suggested the Scotland Office should be axed and warned UK government departments aren’t working together to tackle the threat to the Union. Aberdeen South MP Ross Thomson suggested a new Constitution Unit should instead be established in Downing Street.
“My view is that maybe it is now time to review the role of the Scotland Office,” he said. “Do we need territorial offices in the same way now?
“I actually believe that having a department of constitutional affairs may be a way of
addressing those issues, modernising our constitution and giving more weight to the devolved nations.” A Scotland Office spokesman said the body had a “vital role” in representing Scotland in Whitehall.
