Data access fees scrapped by Scottish council

Councillors have agreed a new data protection policy for South Lanarkshire that will abolish charges for access to personal information.

Following the introduction of the Data Protection Act 2018, councils are no longer able to legally charge for routine subject access requests – when an individual asks for information held about themselves. Since 2011, a £ 10 charge had been placed on subject access requests.
