What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?

A dress in plain grey cady ( a woven fabric) with gorgeous embellished cuffs. It was designer, but I got it in a sale and it was for my book launch, so I forgave myself.

What are you addicted to buying?

Summer dresses, especially floral ones. It must be the thought of long sunny days.

Best ever bargain?

A dress shirt I bought for my husband from a little shirtmaker on London’s Cheapside in 1987. It cost a fortune ( over £ 40, a lot back then) but he’s still wearing it and it looks great.

Who has great style?

If I had to pick just one person I’d go for Michelle Obama – she moves effortlessly from haute couture to looks any woman could wear, and she always walks tall and radiates class.

Name your favourite high street shop.

Jigsaw, for tops and more casual things, but I also love Karen Millen for dresses, especially for big occasions. There’s always something just that bit unusual.

Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?

Yikes, pretty much anything I wore in the Eighties (* whispers* – don’t mention the leg warmers).

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

White jeans – you can wear them with anything. I have about six pairs. n
