‘Mistake’ for Tories to go for hard exit

- By PARIS GOURTSOYANNIS

T h e C o n s e r v a t i v e P a r - ty could lose four million voters if it takes a harder line on Brexit and tries to “outdo” Nigel Farage, newly-appointed International Development Secretary Rory Stewart has warned.

“Most Brexit voters voted for the Conservative Party but four million Remain voters voted for the Cons e r va t ive Pa r t y,” h e t o l d Sky News’ Sophy Ridge On Sunday.

“If the Conservative Party were to make the mistake o f t r y i n g t o o u t d o N i g e l Farage, which I’m sure we won’t but it is something that a few of my colleagues are talking about, then we would lose those four million voters.

“We’d lose young people, we’d l o s e S c o t l a n d , we’d l o s e L o n d o n … we’ve g o t to be able to stretch all the way from Ken Clarke right the way through to Jacob Rees-mogg.”
