Sir Rod sells mansion to footballer for cut-price £4m

- By STUART MACDONALD

Sir Rod Stewart has sold his mansion in a cut-price deal to West Ham footballer Andy Carroll after a three-year search for a buyer.

The former England international bought Wood House in Essex from the singer for just over £4 million.

Sir Rod put the property on the market for £7.5m in 2016 but it did not sell. His wife Penny Lancaster blamed Brexit for the lack of interest.

By November 2016, he had cut the price by £550,000 and he further reduced it by £1m to £5.95m in early 2018.

He slashed the asking price by a fur ther £1,225,000 last July when the grade-ii listed home was advertised by estate agents for £4,725,000.

But Land Registry do cuments show it was purchased by Carroll for £4,080,000 last month.

Carroll will share the home with his fi anceeBilli Mu ck low, who appeared on The Only Way is Essex, and their two children, Arlo, three, and 18-month-old Wolf. The couple put their current home in nearby Chigwell up for sale for £5m in January.

Striker Carroll, 30, who is worth an estimated £19m, got engaged to the realit y television star in 2014.

The sale st ill r e pr es ent s a tidy profit for the singer, who is said to have paid £1.2m for the 28-acre six-bedroom property in Epping in 1986.
