Broadband warning for new-build homes

Housebuild­ers are being urged to ensure that people do not miss out on ultrafast, full fibre broadband when they are buying new properties.

Digital net work op era - tor Openreach said about 3 ,0 0 0 n e w p r o p e r t i e s a year are missing out on full fibre technology.

Op enreach installs full f i b r e n e t w o r k s f r e e o f c h a rg e t o a l l n e w h o u s - i n g d e ve l o p me n t s o f 3 0 or more homes and said it had cut prices by more t h a n t h r e e - q u a r t e r s f o r smaller sites where it will co-fund work.

E d i n b u rg h i s t h e f i r s t c i t y i n S c o t l a n d – a n d one of the first in the UK – to be included in Openreach’s installati­on of full f i b r e t e c h n o l o g y. M o r e than 30,000 premises can already connect in areas of the city such as Abbeyhill, Haymarket, Murrayfiel­d and Newington.
