Jackson leveller leaves City with sinking feeling again

Brechin City were relegated for a second successive season after they could only draw 1-1 with visiting Stenhousem­uir, who started the day a point ahead of the Glebe Park men.

Mark Mcguigan turned in a cross to give the Ochilview men the lead midway through the first half with Brechin’s Andy Jackson heading home an equaliser early in the second half.

The hosts’ hopes increased when Stenhousem­uir’s Conor Mcbrearty was dismissed on 52 minutes for a crunching challenge on Scott Robertson, but they could not find a second goal.

Brechin boss Barr y Smith said: “The players gave eve - r ything but it was not good enough.”

The Warriors now face Annan in their fight to stay in League 1 with the first leg at Galabank tomorrow.

Peterhead finally got over the title-winning finishing line with a 2- 0 success over Queen’s Park at Hampden.

They had the title snatched from their hands last weekend when Stirling Albion scored an injury-time equaliser, but a powerful first-half display blew away any jitters this time.

The opening goal came on 26 minutes when Jamie Ste - venson swung over a cross for Jack Leitch to head home via a post and just before the break Leitch doubled Peterhead’s lead when he turned home a low Scott Brown cross from six yards out.

Ann an, who begin their play-off adventure against Stenhousem­uir tomorrow, enjoyed a 2-0 success at Albion Rovers where half-time substitute Tommy Muir was influentia­l.

The striker was brought down for a penalty five minutes from time, scored it and also slotted in a late second after Rovers defender Bryan Wharton miscued a free-kick.
