Back to school?

-

Ruth Davidson “fired the starting gun” on the next Holyrood election on Saturday as she set out ambitious plans to keep all Scottish youngsters in school or training until 18 to help bring about a ”blue collar” revolution. At last someone is really trying to address the problem of under-employment in Scotland. This approach is already working in England and it most certainly should be tried in Scotland. Apprentice training of any sort – be it that already in place in the medical profession, in accountancy, in project management, in the army and of course also at a skills-based level – is the very best way by which to prepare youngsters to move from schooling to employment.

Corrigenda

For someone who supposedly believes in freedom this is as an authoritarian a proposal as I have ever heard. People will be forced into ‘apprenticeships’ which will just be low-paid employment with little training in many cases. Let them leave school at 16 if they wish and make their own way in the world.
