In Saturday’s edition we reported that Sheriff Alastair Brown had ruled that the use of evidence from “paedophile catchers” would amount to a contravention of an accused person’s right to privacy under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. In fact, the sheriff rejected that argument, which had been put forward by lawyers for Paul Potelle, who is accused of sending indecent social media messages to what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl and a child under 13.
