Baby joy to unite us all
The arrival of a royal baby is an event that can bring people from different walks of life together – as demonstrated by Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and Nicola Sturgeon, who all offered their congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of a boy.
The child will now become part of the British Royal Family and will hopefully manage to avoid the worst effects of the soap opera into which real lives can sometimes be turned. But, all things considered, he has a better chance of health and happiness than most children born in the
UK. As one wag on Twitter quipped: “When you realise the Royal Baby is less than 24 hours old but is already richer and more successful than you’ll ever be.”
Some may disagree with the idea of monarchy but, first and foremost, this is a baby like any other and Meghan and Harry are new parents experiencing the simple joy produced by such a happy occasion. Even if we are not parents ourselves, that’s something most of us can relate to.
The Scotsman would like to add its congratulations to the happy family.
