I suppose if you’ re going to accuse others of peddling fake news, you might as well get in on the act as Allan Sutherland does (Letters, 6 May).

At no point did the organisers of the All Under One Banner march in Glasgow last year claim that the turnout was 100,000. They estimated that 35,000 turned out then and I think Mr Sutherland must be confusing the Glasgow march with the one in Edinburgh, which did have 100,000 marchers. As for the police estimate of between 30,000 and 35,000, that’s just plain silly.

However, the organisers and many participan­ts were high in their praise of the way our police handled the march. Mr Sutherland may jibe, but meanwhile the Unioni st counter-demonstrat­ion (with ten police in attendance) mustered around 20 people. Now that really is funny.
