#ROYAL BABY

Twitter, like the rest of the world’s media, was dominated by just one topic yesterday – the birth of the Royal baby. There were plenty of good wishes for Harry and Meghan after news that the Duchess had given birth to a baby boy. First Minister @Nicola Sturgeon said: “The birth of a baby is a joyful occasion – congratulations to Harry and Meghan.”

@sajidjavid added: “Congratulations to the Duke & Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their boy. Absolutely wonderful news! #royalbaby. (As Home Secretary, contrary to speculation, I didn’t attend the birth!)”

@Ryanseacrest said: “It’s a boy! Congrats to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The royal baby is 7th in line to the British throne… and the latest entry in the race for the iron throne.”

@Charlotte_lil9 added: “To all the other women in the world who had babies today, congrats on the births of your babies. Also congrats to Megan #royalbaby

Then there was the inevitable speculation about what the newest addition to the Royal family would be called. @Jimminuswilson had the idea: “Petition for the royal baby to be called Wilson” while @ Deludedbrendan weighed in: “If we beat Man City tonight I fully expect them to call it Brendan.” Tongue-in-cheek @ Number10cat added: “Prince Larry has a certain ring to it…”

Of course, not everyone was thrilled by the royal baby news.

@Thisisrobthomas complained: “Opened @ Huffpost and the headline was about climate change and the extinction of over a million species. A minute later it changed to news about the royal baby. So happy for ole Harry and Meghan but maybe that short attention span doesn’t help our awareness about global warming?”

@Onyiiboy10 said: “When you realise the #Royalbaby is less than 24 hours old but is already richer and more successful than you’ll ever be.”

@vandpstores hit out: “Congratulations to the family of benefit claimants on the birth of another boy who will get to live a life of enormous wealth and privilege at our expense.”
