Hawke leaves post as chief executive at Cappielow

Morton chairman Crawford Ra eh as revealed that chief executive Warren Hawke has quit the club.

Rae accepted the former Ton striker’s resignatio­n on Friday evening ahead of a turbulent weekend in which manager Jonatan Johnasson and assistant Peter Houston re signed only hours before the last game of the season against Dundee United.

The dugout pair stepped down over Rae’ s initial insistence that Charlie Telfer could not star t the match due to a clause which would have triggered a new deal for the midfielder.

Hawke returned to the Cap pie low outfit as a consultant in 2012, being appointed CEO in 2017.

In a statement, Rae said: “On Friday evening, I accepted our chief executive Warren Hawke’s resignatio­n from Greeno ck Morton Football Club.

“Warren has been with the club for seven years, achieving a great deal in that time, and we are extremely grateful for the work he has done.

“Warren put his heart and soul into the club. We par t as friends and wish Warren all the very best in whatever career path he now chooses.”

Rae said he is considerin­g all future ownership pro - po sa ls, including a fan-driven scheme, due to the financial predicamen­t of the club.

He added :“We can not hide the fact that the club is losing money and we need to accept investment from other sources.

“We are exploring a number of investment options, including the recently reported fan ownership scheme Morton Club Together.”

On the search for a new management team, with ex-Livingston manager David Hopkins aid to be a front runner, Ra es aid: “Our search for a new management team is continuing apace. In fact, by full-time on Saturday we had already received six applicatio­ns. We hope to be in a position to make an announceme­nt about the appointmen­t of a new management team in the coming weeks.”
