Gaelic endures

-

Gaelic is Scotland’s original language. It is still spoken widely. Therefore, I am stung to respond to Douglas Hamilton’s letter about “the evils of nationalism” (Scotsman, 4 May).

When another nation invades and tries to systematically destroy the culture is that not evil? If you don’t like it, I suggest taking your children to England, where they can study English. This is Scotland – tha Gàidhlig gu leor aginn fhathast.

I think it shameful and insulting that anyone would not wish to assimilate themselves into the culture of a country in which they live.
