Dundee on top as job hunters seek new careers

- By SCOTT REID

Applications for new jobs in Scotland rose by 6.5 per cent last month, with Dundee leading the field, according to the latest market snapshot.

CV-Library, the in dependent jobs board, said applications in Dundee were up by 19.9 p er cent in April, compared with the same month last year. Perth logged a rise of 18.2 per cent, Aberdeen 13.1 per cent, Glasgow 7.3 per cent, while the rise in Edinburgh was just 2.1 per cent.

However, averages alaries for new jobs were down by 5.8 per cent across the country, according to the study.

Lee Big gins, founder and chief executive of CVLibrary, said: “The influx of jobs available in Scotland has clearly resulted in the number of applicants rising, which is great news for businesses.

“However, it’s interesting to note that the number of vacancies on offer grew at five times the rate of applications. This suggests that businesses need to adapt a more focused approach to hiring. Pay packets are the first part of a job advert that professionals look at.”
