#DANNYBAKER

BBC Radio 5 live presenter Danny Baker has been fired after he was accused of posting a racially insensitive tweet following the birth of the royal baby. Baker apologised for the tweet and denied that the image had any racist intent.

Baker @prodnose wrote: “Would have used same stupid pic for any other Royal birth or Boris Johnson kid or even one of my own. It’s a funny image. (Though not of course in that context.) Enormous mistake, for sure. Grotesque. Anyway, here’s to ya Archie, sorry mate. #Occam #Razor” @_Rob_b replied: “I’m sure Danny Baker is a perfectly decent chap who has empathy in his heart and knows his own mind. He probably posted the chimp pic without thought. But the connection to racism is clear. The BBC have taken the correct action. There’s zero room for this. It can’t be tolerated.”

ITV news anchor @ Charlenewhite added: “To post a pic picturing a 3-day old baby of mixed heritage as a monkey, then claim it was a joke? That’s old-school prejudice and racism at its peak. And for a trusted broadcaster working at a public service broadcaster to feed that prejudice? It’s unacceptable.”

#HIGHLANDGAMES

Scotland’s Highland Games organisers have caved into demands to promote gender equality by allowing female athletes to compete. @Owlvizion said: “Little misogynist sounding no? ‘Allow’? This is 2019? And there are more appropriate ways of inviting rather ‘allowing’, as a means of extending mindfulness of gender equality, and making it, displayed so?” @chieftainsnews wrote: “Did we have to wait for funders’ pressure to produce this? Still, perhaps it only matters that it has happened.”

#STONEYBANKSY

The man behind a series of mysterious scrap metal sculptures that have been popping up around Stonehaven for more than a decade has finally been unmasked by a BBC TV series.

@jacabz said: “Awww he’s made some fantastic work. Well worth a visit round #Stonehaven to have a lookie see #stoneybanksy”

@meandmybigmouth added: “An artist creating sculptures by the sea, just for the sake of it. Quite wonderful.”
