More than 4 in 10 share fake news

More than four in 10 peo­ple who share po­lit­i­cal news on so­cial me­dia ad­mit they have passed on false or in­ac­cu­rate items, ac­cord­ing to a new aca­demic study.

Al­most a fifth said they do so de­lib­er­ately to up­set oth­ers, ac­cord­ing to t he re­search. The study by Lough­bor­ough Univer­sity’s Online Civic Cult ure Cen­tre ( OCCC), f ound Con­ser­va­tive sup­port­ers and users with right- wing be­liefs were more likely to spread news they knew to be fake, while left- wingers were more likely to try to cor­rect it.
