Lec­tur­ers to strike as talks over pay fail

Col­lege lec­tur­ers are to go ahead with two days of strike ac­tion next week af­ter talks broke down.

T h e E d u c a t i o n a l In­sti­tute of S cot­land ( EIS) had pre­vi­ously s u s p e n d e d p l a n n e d i ndust r i a l a c t i o n t o a l l o w n e g o t i a t i o n s about pay to take place.

E I S s a i d s o m e p r o g r e s s h a d b e e n made wit h Col l e ges Scot­land, but no agree­ment could be reached. An of­fer of fur­ther talks to take place on Mon­day was r e j e c t e d by em­ploy­ers, the union said.

EIS gen­eral sec­re­tary Larr y Flana­gan said: ““With no i mproved of­fer likely to be forth­com­ing, next week’s t wo- day strike ac­tion will now go ahead.”
