PC defends London attack actions

One of the first armed police officers to respond to the London Bridge terror attack has defended his decision to treat casualties rather than hunt for suspects.

City of London Pc Andrew Duggan was on t he s cene within minutes but believed it was a road traffic accident, an i nquest heard. Pc Duggan said he raced to the scene after hearing “a very, very loud shout.

The marksman explained how he went i nto “medic mode” and began helping victims, including Canadian Christine Archibald, 30, who died after she was hit by the terrorists’ rented white van. An inquest heard he stayed with Ms Archibald until an ambulance arrived before realising there was a further incident south of the bridge.

“I was focused on what was in front of me and how I could help,” he said. “My colleague and I did the best we could.”
