- By MARGARET NEIGHBOUR

Up to 45 bodies have been found at clandestine burial sites in Mexico, officials have said.

It was rep or ted that 30 corpses were found in one spot in the northern state of So nora, with 15 more buried under the patio of a multi-family house on the outskirts of Guadalajara in Jalisco state.

The find was made by forensics experts accompanying a volunteer search group near the city of Cajeme.

Clandestine burial sites have often been used by drug cartels in Mexico to hide the bodies of executed rivals or kid nap victims. While hundreds of such sites date back to the 2010-2016 drug war, some are more recent.

Volunteer searchers often act on tips about where burial grounds are located and then walk through fields plunging rods into the ear th to detect the telltale odour of decomposing bodies.

Jalisco state prosecutor Gerardo Solis said the bodies of one woman and 14 men had apparently been buried weeks ago.
