Turnbull gets the vote

Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has been named the Scottish Football Writers’ Associatio­n Scottish Young Player of the Year.

The 19- year-old scooped the prize after netting 13 goals in 29 Premier ship games during his breakthrou­gh season at Fir Park.

The skilful midfielder saw off competitio­n from Mother well team-mate Jake Hastie, Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor and Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson to take the prize following a poll of SFWA members.

The award is op en to all Scottish players born during or after 1997.

Turn bull–who has two years left on his contract – was also on the shor tlist for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, which was won by Rangers’ Ryan Kent.
