MUIR WIN SELKIRK 7S BUT WATSONIANS ARE KINGS

-

Boroughmuir lifted the Selkirk Sevens trophy for the first time on Saturday at Philiphaugh but Watsonians retained the Kings of the Sevens title with a win against Berwick in the opening round, writes Atholl Innes.

It was Boroughmuir ’s second win on the circuit following success at Hawick and ensured the runnersup spot goes down to the wire at Jed-forest this weekend. Boroughmuir won the Selkirk final 19-7 against Jed-forest and coach Graham Shiel said: “I am really proud of the boys. They’ve worked really hard. We had high expectations of ourselves and aiming to be runners-up is big progress.”

Muir led 12-0 at the interval in the final with tries by Johnny Matthews and Gavin Parker, who converted the first. Matthews scored again and Tom Wilson converted to put the tie beyond doubt despite a late Lewis Young try and conversion.
