Man charged over Bradley Welsh murder

A man has b een charged in connection with the murder of 48-year- old T2 Trainspott­ing actor Bradley Welsh.

The 48-year- old sustained fatal injuries outside his home in the city’s Chester Street on the evening of Wednesday, 17 April.

In a statement released yesterday, police said a man had been charged in connection with the murder of Welsh, and with the attempted murder of a 48- year-old man and the serious assault of a 22-yearold man in Pitcairn Grove on Wednesday 13 March.

The 28- year-old was expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Welsh, who had spoken openly about his criminal past, was returning home to his west end flat from his Holyrood Boxing gym when he was shot.

His partner and young child were inside the building at the time.

A neighbour tried to save the boxer’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A former Hibs Casual football hooligan in the 1980s, Mr Welsh spent four years in prison for extorting money from estate agents.

In recent years, the boxer became involved in charity projects in Edinburgh, including helping young people to stay away from a life of crime through his boxing gym.

Welsh, who was born in Moredun, played the role of gangland figure Mr Doyle in T2 Trainspott­ing,
