They are 6.5 games ahead of the second-placed LA Angels, who got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota led 2-0 after the first innings and were level at 4-4 when Tommy La Stella struck his 10th home run of the season to decide the encounter in the sixth.

The game between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium was postponed due to a wet outfield, and they will now face each other in a doubleheader tonight.
