Think tank warns of more illegal migrants after Brexit

Illegal immigratio­n could rise after Brexit, a think tank claims.

More people will enter and remain in the UK unlawfully once EU freedom of movement rules stop applying, a report from the Social Market Foundation (SMF) suggests.

It calls on ministers to “come clean” about the “complexiti­es and unintended consequenc­es” of immigratio­n policy.

The briefing examined historical examples and identified four lessons for policymake­rs today.
